What’s the biggest challenge we face in our current era? Social isolation.
Widening gaps between economic classes, partisan tribes and races. Social capital has taken a hit, even more so for communities with a low income scale.
With the prominence of TV and the Internet, people may no longer crave a sense of community but rather a private world of their own.
A lack of community leaders could be to blame, every small town would have business-owners and bankers, but now almost all major banks and businesses are owned by larger corporations.
Social isolation creates higher rates of suicide, drug addiction, depression and alienation. As well as political polarization and a broadening sense of inequality.
So what does it take to get this sort of ripple effect going in other cities around the country? It can be something as simple as taking on the mentality of community is valuable.
