In a recent news release, Inserm said that “patients felt pleasure at becoming thin rather than fear of becoming fat.”
International criteria for eating disorder diagnosis are often linked to:
- psychological distress
- restricting food intake resulting in weight loss
- a distorted idea of their own body weight
- fear of gaining weight or becoming fat.
The researchers used a “skin conductance test” to calculate the rate of sweat on their skin when shown a variety of images.
The emotions brought about by witnessing certain images lead to a quick increase in sweat.
